Beyond Bionics: Transhumanism and Virtual Worlds
We are cyborgs! We may not be able to run faster than a speeding locomotive, but our selves are already deeply linked with technology. What's the next step for the human species? Will we become Jamie Summers, with onboard hardware? Will we be able to upload ourselves into a server farm? Will we re-engineer our biology to let us become in First Life everything we can be in SL: eternally beautiful and young, any sex, dragons or furries? Or are we turning ourselves into Frankenstein's monster, and debasing our genetic heritage?
Come join us for a *spirited* discussion of what's next for humans and technology! Don't miss this one, people - it's going to be *legendary*!
Saturday October 17, 1-3:30 SLT, The Diversionarium
Invited panelists include:
Giulio Perhaps: Giulio Prisco of the World Transhumanist Association
Extropia DaSilva: Transhumanist and essayist
dandellion Kimban: blogger and digital philosopher
Alexander Burgess: blogger and digital philosopher
Esteban Moody: blogger and digital philosopher
Argent Bury: blogger and digital philosopher

I just popped in-world to send out the remaining invites, and was about to email yours!
People will be talking about this one for *ever*....!
It looks like a fantastic topic this week. I'm particularly fond of this idea of First Life alteration. Goodness knows the fun and sheer fulfilment I could have living as an autonomous doll for a day. Naturally, I'd be on the first plane out to the U.S. should we somehow wake up in that fleshy realm! Mmmmyum.
Er, perhaps I'd best look upon the event from underneath that cold waterfall in the photo, just to keep myself calm. >.>
Meanwhile, I'll try to remember what documentary it was I saw that really captured my imagination on this subject. About 6 years ago I saw a film suggesting we may one day have DNA machines to change our appearance. I remember the woman modelling it in a very eye-catching gold catsuit, as you'd expect from any sci-fi product!
But this might be interesting, might actually bring some extra people along :D
*hugs*

Definitely bring people - I guarantee it'll be interesting! :)

This is about relaunching the WTA-SL group in SL. We used to organize monthly conference - Kevin Warwick etc, see

the idea is to relaunch, hopefully with a few new volunteers.
Should we merge the two groups for Sat?
